Signs Your Air Conditioner Needs Servicing
When you Should Get your Air Conditioner Serviced
Your air conditioner provides a welcome respite from the oppressive heat of Australia. Things go wrong from time to time, and your air conditioning system may not be working as it should. We’ve put together a list of warning signs that something is wrong with your system so you can determine if it’s time to call Crispair for help.
As air conditioners are affected by power surges or interruptions, it is best to do a power reset before contacting Crispair. This quite often resets the system and restarts it. To perform a power reset, you need to turn the air conditioning power off at the meter box or electrical isolator at the outdoor unit for a minimum of one hour. Restart the system and if the problem still exists, then contact Crispair to organise a technician to attend.
No cold air
One of the most common and annoying signs that there is something wrong with your air conditioning unit is that it is blowing out very little or no cold air. Confirm that the controller is set to cool and there is still no cold air coming out, it could be a sign you have a faulty compressor or the refrigeration levels are too low.
Little to no airflow
No, or minimal airflow, is a common sign that there is an issue with your air conditioner. This could be a faulty zone motor, possible duct collapse, or maybe the duct has a tear or has come off the outlet. It could also indicate that your return air filter is blocked or that the motor is failing.
If you are experiencing these issues, then it’s best to get it serviced to prevent inefficient use of your system and increasing energy costs.
Weird noises
It is common for your air conditioning unit to make small noises while it starts up. However, if your air conditioner is making unusual noises, such as metal on metal, or sounds like spare parts are moving around the system, then it could be a sign of a major fault. If this is the case, you should stop using the system to prevent the issue from worsening, and contact Crispair immediately for one of our highly skilled team members to come and fix the fault.
More expensive electricity bills
If you have noticed your electricity bills have increased substantially, but your air conditioning usage hasn’t changed, then this could be a sign that something is wrong with your system. Firstly, you should check to see if any other appliances could be the culprit. If you believe it could still be your air conditioner, then contact Crispair so that our team can come out and perform a service on your AC.
Leaks coming from the unit
Depending on the type of air conditioning system you have, some water dripping could just be condensation dropping off the unit, which is considered normal. If you notice steady streams of water coming from the unit or puddles forming near the unit, however, something else may be wrong. If you ignore a leak, toxic mould may develop.
